On this web site you will see pieces of porcelain and stoneware pottery by Alexandria,VA. potter Doug Payne, who has made and taught pottery since the late 70s.

Doug Payne,a retired naval aviator living in Alexandria,VA began working in clay under the tutelage of Alexandria potter Danie Bradford Barrows in 1978. He soon became a student of the late Vally Posony a master potter and hard taskmaster whose functional designs and earthtone glazes were a major influence on his own style. After retirement, he established a full pottery studio at his home from which he makes and sells unique functional pottery in both stoneware and porcelain. He has also taught pottery in the Alexandria Public Education System.

Constantly experimenting with new shapes, glazes and techniques, he strives to blend form and function in each piece.

"dougpayneoriginals" are all reduction fired to over 2300 degrees F and are dishwasher,oven and microwave safe.
